In the 1860 census of DeWitt Co., IL, Tillman, 31, is living with Rebecca, 31, Mary L. ??, 8, Jemima, 6, Madora, 3, and Margaret A., 5/12. They were all born in IL, exept for Rebecca who was born in KY.
Tillman enlisted in the 107th Illinois Infantry, Company F, during the Civil War, under the command of Capts. Henry G. Wismer, John D. Graham, and Albert J. Blackford. He was a sergeant. He enlisted Sept. 4, 1862 in Clinton, along with many other men of DeWitt County, and was discharged Apr. 26, 1863 due to a disability.
In the 1870 census of Spring Valley Twp, Cherokee Co., KS, "Tilman", 42, is living with wife Rebecca, 43, and children Madora, 13, John T., 9, and Eliza M., 4. Also in the same household was Tillman's brother Alexander, 33, his wife Margaret, 33, daughter Nancy L, 5, and Rebecca, 2. Another brother, David Martin, 39, is also living with them. Rebecca and Margaret were born in KY, the rest in IL. Tillman and Alexander were farmers.
In 1880, Tillman is living with his daughter Jemima and her husband in Platte Co., May Twp., MO.
Tillman received a pension for his service in the Civil War. An Invalid claim was filed Sept 23, 1888 in Kansas. A widow claim was filed by Elizabeth Mulkey March 14, 1892 in Missouri. |
