Daniel enlisted as a private in Company A, Twenty-sixth Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry on 13 August 1862 for three years service during the Civil War. He was single, age 18, 5 feet 11 inches tall, had light colored hair, hazel eyes, light complexion and was a farmer according to the muster roll. He was mustered in on 22 November 1862 at Springfield, IL. He was mustered out on 20 July 1865 at Louisville, KY. There were three other Parkhursts in Company A: John W., Milton, and John M. When the 1880 Census was taken, Daniel M. "Parcus" was living with his brother, William, and William's family in Illinois Twp., Washington Co., A When the 1900 Census was taken, Daniel was a barber living in Hickory Point, Macon Co., IL. When the 1910 Census was taken, Daniel, 62, was living Macon Co., IL, with daughters Ellie E, 26, Myrtle A., 22, Pearl E., 16, and Ruth E., 8, and son Troy W., 14. He was a barber. He was living nextdoor to John W. Hornback, possibly a brother of his late wife. Daniel was the Macon Co., IL Register in April of 1918. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
