Job and his first wife, Mary Spears, had no surviving children.   They were charter members of the Church of Christ at Union, Johnson Co., IN in June 1853. Job and his second wife, Nancy Ann Leach, were first cousins once removed. Their common ancestors were Ezekiel Parkhurst and his wife, Abiel Hathaway. In the 1850 census of Nineveh Twp, Johnson Co., IN, Job (23) was living with his wife Mary (21) next to his sister Rosanna and her husband, Curtis Prichard.  He was a farmer. In the 1860 Census of Nineveh Twp, Johnson Co., IN, Job, 32, was living with wife Mary, 30, Mary's sister Sophia Prichard, 27, and Sophia's children Asa, 6, and Albert, 3.  Job was a farmer with $500 worth of personal property.  Sophia was the wife of Walker Prichard who died in 1859.  Walker was also Job's first cousin once removed. In the 1870 census of Jackson Twp, Effingham Co., IL, "J. B. Parkhirst", 34 (should be 43) is living with wife Maggie, 31, and children Sarah, 3, and David, 1.  He was a farmer with real property worth 1600 and personal property worth 300. From an email by Dr. John Scott Davenport, 01/01/2001: "I maintained close contact with Uncle Edward Allen Davenport, William and Cordia Anne's second son, until his death in 1972.  He sent me all of the family history materials he had shortly before his death, among which were the obituaries of Job Benton and Ellen [Nancy Ann] Parkhurst as published in various newspapers, the Masonic Memorial Certificate for Job Benton, and items concerning Aunt Mary and her husband." From an email by Dr. John Scott Davenport, 01/03/2001: "Uncle Ed [Davenport], who gave me first hand impressions concerning his Grandfather and Grandmother Parkhurst said that Job Benton was very tall, and a stern man." Job was a charter member of the Maroa Grange No. 102 of the order of P. of H., organized Jan 20, 1873, Maroa Twp, Macon Co., IL. Job was also a member of the "Old Settlers' Association of Macon County." The 23 Mar 1897 edition of the Daily Republican has J.B. Parkhurst on the Hickory Point Democrat ticket as a justice of the peace.  He apparently lost to D. Good, another Democrat, 109 to 114.
